Great Times in the Eastern Caribbean!
The end of September was a perfect time for sailing the Eastern Caribbean. Sailing out of Port Canaveral FL
(immediately adjacent to the Cape Canaveral Space Center), we leisurely cruised for two days to our first port at Nassau, Grand Bahamas. The temperature was 83 degrees (cooler than Mississippi at the time) and the atmosphere was grand indeed. A myriad of shore excursions were
available, including tours of Atlantis, the one-of-a-kind hotel and aquatic musuem located just off our docking point. Many opted for scuba diving, while others spent the day shopping for jewelry, cameras and the like.
Returning to the Glory, we set sail for the island of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. A day of sailing was filled with pools, hot tubs, stage shows, and food, food, food! We arrived at St. Thomas on Tuesday morning. A georgeous island, St. Thomas gave everyone a chance to touch base with the folks back home since cellular service in St. Thomas is the same as back home since the island is a U.S. Protectorate.
Great food and drink could be found in some of the remote
back alleys off the main thoroughfares. Island specialties with a Caribbean flavor as well as American food were available at quaint estaurants such as Galdys' Cafe. Of course the island had every imaginable type of water excursion, sightseeing, fishing, and shopping.
From St. Thomas it was on the next day to St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles. Again we had to endure marvelous weather and great activities, great
beauty and wonderful local foods! It's a tough life, but somebody's got to do it!!
All in all, it was another great EDUCATIONAL TRIP! Yes, we had our classes onboard the beautiful Carnival Glory in relaxed comfort. Our classes, as always, were held on sailing days while at open sea (we make a point not to interfere with port days). Of course, we were forced to mix our education activities with fun and relaxation on board the Glory!
